Hotels listed here are shown on the map of Marrakesh Ville Nouvelle.

Hôtel des Voyageurs 40 Bd Mohammed Zerktouni 0524 447218. This long-established budget hotel has rather an old-fashioned feel, but it’s well kept, with spacious if rather sombre rooms and a pleasant little garden. 100–199dh (£8-16/$13-26/€9-18)

Hôtel du Pacha 33 Rue de la Liberté 0524 431327, A 1930s-built hotel with large if rather drab rooms, most around a central courtyard, with a/c and satellite TV. There’s a good restaurant, but no pool. 350–499dh (£28-40/$46-65/€30-44)

Hôtel Farouk 66 Av Hassan II 0524 431989, Owned by the same family as the Ali in the Medina, and housed in a rather eccentric building, with all sorts of branches and extensions, it offers a variety of rooms – have a look at a few before choosing – all with hot showers. Staff are friendly and welcoming, and there’s an excellent restaurant. BB 200–349dh (£16-28/$26-46/€18-30)

Hôtel Fashion 45 Av Hassan II 0524 423707, Terracotta-tiled rooms and bathrooms, nicely carved black-painted wooden furnishings, reliable hot showers with a strong jet, and large windows grace the rooms at this tastefully designed three-star with a pool. A rooftop restaurant is planned but not yet open. BB 500–699dh (£40-56/$65-92/€44-61)

Hôtel Franco-Belge 62 Bd Mohammed Zerktouni 0524 448472. Decent but rather drab ground-floor rooms, some with shower, around a courtyard in what claims to be the oldest hotel in Guéliz, with hot water 8am–6pm. 100–199dh (£8-16/$13-26/€9-18)

Hotel Ibis Moussafir Marrakech Centre Gare Av Hassan II/Pl de la Gare 0524 435929 to 32, Tasteful chain hotel located right by the train station, not the most exciting accommodation in town, but good value, with efficient service, a swimming pool, a restaurant, a bar in the lobby and good buffet breakfasts available. It’s worth asking for a room that’s been recently renovated (currently those on the first floor). 500–699dh (£40-56/$65-92/€44-61)

Hôtel Toulousain 44 Rue Tariq Ben Ziad 0524 430033, Excellent budget hotel originally owned by a Frenchman from Toulouse (hence the name); has a secure car park and a variety of rooms, some with shower, some with shower and toilet, some with shared facilities. BB 100–199dh (£8-16/$13-26/€9-18)
